IPDT is member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council since 2020. The GSTC is the highest body in defining and managing global standards for sustainable tourism: Criteria GSTC. Action Plan for Sustainable Tourism
Involving all players, IPDT designs a sustainable development pattern, in accordance with the strategic objectives. The Action Plan provides the instructions to implement the measures that address sustainability in four key areas: economy, society, culture and environment.
Management of Seasonality
In order to reduce the seasonality of businesses and tourism destinations, IPDT analyzes touristic products and markets, in order to understand their predisposition to purchase; and proposes a model for optimizing supply and attracting more tourists out of high season
Education and Awareness for Sustainability
Making business and destinations more sustainable is a cross-cutting challenge for all generations. IPDT promotes awareness actions for the adoption of more sustainable practices in tourism, for the agents of the sector and residents. Committed to a vision of the future, IPDT also works with school communities, implementing educational actions in the field of sustainability and the importance of tourism for the society.

Azores, sustainable tourist destination
IPDT assisted the entire certification process in the Azores, as the first Archipelago in the World, recognized by the GSTC as a sustainable tourist destination.
